Lisa Moro

Stage and Costume Designer

Vita

Stage and costume designer Lisa Moro is emerging as a distinctive visual voice in European music theatre. Trained as an architect, she combines spatial precision with a distinctive visual language, creating stage environments that are both dramaturgically coherent and emotionally compelling.

Since first collaborating within the creative teams of Tobias Kratzer, Verena Stoiber and Lydia Steier, Lisa Moro and stage director Matthias Piro have formed a long-standing artistic partnership. Since then, she has designed the sets and costumes for all of his independent productions. Together, they have developed a distinctive theatrical language, exploring new ways of making opera as a socially relevant form of music theatre accessible to younger audiences. Their productions combine literary sensitivity, musical precision and a striking visual aesthetic, reflecting an artistic voice that is rapidly gaining recognition on the European opera scene.

The 2026/2027 season includes the stage and costume designs for Hans Werner Henze’s El Cimarrón at the Hamburgische Staatsoper, Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin at Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Massenet’s Don Quichotte at Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe and Philip Glass‘ Les Enfants terribles at Staatstheater Darmstadt, following its highly acclaimed premiere at the Opéra de Lille in spring 2026.

Since 2022, Lisa Moro has worked as a freelance set and costume designer. Prior to that, she collaborated closely with the acclaimed set and costume designer Rainer Sellmaier as his personal assistant within Tobias Kratzer’s creative team, contributing to productions at Theater an der Wien, Oper Frankfurt, Komische Oper Berlin, Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Bayerische Staatsoper Munic.

In addition to her ongoing collaboration with Matthias Piro, Lisa Moro has designed sets and costumes for productions directed by Jean Renshaw and Nicola Raab at renowned opera houses and international festivals, including the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik, Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca, Opéra de Lille, Staatstheater Darmstadt, Staatstheater Mainz, Theater Regensburg, Rheinische Landesbühne Neuss, Theater Aschaffenburg and Theater Paderborn.
