Vita
Italian tenor Matteo Falcier is one of the most versatile lyric tenors of his generation, combining an extensive Italian repertoire with an impressive stage presence and a career that has taken him to many of Europe’s leading opera houses and festivals.
A graduate of the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan, where he completed both his undergraduate and postgraduate studies with highest honours, Falcier continued his artistic development at the Accademia Teatro alla Scala and the Accademia del Belcanto “Rodolfo Celletti” in Martina Franca. Among his teachers and artistic mentors are Alfonso Antoniozzi, Enzo Dara, Mariella Devia, Giuseppe Sabbatini, Luciana Serra, Luciana D’Intino, Sonia Prina, Paolo Coni and Renato Bruson.
Recent highlights include Errico “Settebellezze” in Nino Rota’s Napoli milionaria! in a new production at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna under James Feddeck and Marcelo Lombardero, followed by his debut as Orfeo in Alfredo Casella’s rarely performed La favola di Orfeo at the Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca, conducted by Nicolò Umberto Foron and directed by Jean Renshaw. The 2026/2027 season brings further engagements at the Teatro Regio di Torino and the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari.
His repertoire encompasses many of the principal lyric tenor roles, including Pollione (Norma), Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Rodolfo (La Bohème), Nadir (Les pêcheurs de perles), Ruggero (La rondine), Arnoldo (Guillaume Tell), Manrico (Il trovatore), Turiddu (Cavalleria rusticana), Alfredo Germont (La traviata), Duca di Mantova (Rigoletto), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Ernesto (Don Pasquale) and Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore). Equally at home in standard repertoire and rediscovered works, he has earned particular appreciation for the dramatic conviction and theatrical authenticity of his character portrayals.
