Armenian tenor Tigran Hakobyan combines a youthful and compelling stage presence with a versatile repertoire that is increasingly embracing the leading tenor roles of the Italian and French operatic tradition.

Recent and upcoming highlights include Don Carlos in Verdi’s Don Carlo at Tampere Opera’s 80th-anniversary production in March 2026, and his forthcoming Glyndebourne Festival Opera debut as Mario Cavaradossi in Puccini’s Tosca in 2027. At Tampere Opera, Hakobyan appeared alongside Mika Kares and Marjukka Tepponen in the Italian-language production. His debut at Glyndebourne Festival Opera will mark an important new step in his international career and a further expansion of his repertoire.

Recent engagements have also included Don José in Bizet’s Carmen and Radamès in Verdi’s Aida at the Armenian National Opera under Maestro Karen Durgaryan, as well as Turiddu in Cavalleria rusticana at Theater Erfurt and the title role in Verdi’s five-act French version of Don Carlo at Theater Kiel.

Hakobyan studied at the Komitas State Conservatory in Yerevan, graduating with distinction in 2015 under the guidance of Svetlana Kolosaryan. He further developed his artistic profile through masterclasses with distinguished artists including Dolora Zajick, Gegham Grigoryan, Dale Fundling and Nicola Martinucci.

Following his military service, he joined the Young Artist Opera Program of the Armenian National Opera, where he performed leading roles including Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore. Since 2021 he has appeared as a guest soloist with the Armenian National Opera, performing roles such as Mario Cavaradossi in Tosca, Rodolfo in La bohème and Alfredo in La traviata.

His international career began in 2022 with Cassio in Verdi’s Otello at the National Theatre Brno, followed by performances at the Thurn und Taxis Festival in Regensburg. He subsequently appeared as Rodolfo in La bohème at Malmö Opera and Theater Kiel, and made his debut at the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki as Lensky in Eugene Onegin.

His repertoire now includes Rodolfo, Cavaradossi, Alfredo, Don Carlos, Don José, Radamès, Turiddu, Lensky, Cassio, Canio and Nemorino, reflecting the continued expansion of his repertoire from the lyric tenor repertoire towards the major Italian and French roles.

Alongside his operatic work, Hakobyan is active on the concert stage. His concert repertoire includes Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and Mozart’s Requiem, performed with the Armenian State Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Eduard Topchian.
